Oerol Festival (Joop Mulder)

Oerol is an annual location-specific theatre festival held on the Dutch island of Terschelling in mid-June. Over 50,000 people visit the island festival of site-specific theatre, dance, opera, visual art, music, and the various cross-overs that merge multiple disciplines. The underlying philosophy of the Oerol Festival is that the whole island is a stage for those 10 days. Beaches, woods, dunes, buildings, and streets are settings and places for performance. Over the past 28 years, the festival has grown from a small-scale street event into an internationally recognized, multi-disciplinary arts festival. The next Oerol Festival will be June 11 - 20, 2010. More info about Joop Mulder, the creative director of the festival.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams/Mobile Arts (Terts Brinkhoff)

Boulevard of Broken Dreams is a traveling festival that brings a splash of culture to numerous cities in the Netherlands. With new theatrical acts, well-known musicians, young film makers, and old talents, the Boulevard of Broken Dreams (BOBD) will hypnotize unsuspecting first-time visitors as well as those who have been many times before. BOBD also has a children’s program. More info about Terts Brinkhoff, creative director of the festival.

Theater Instituut Nederland (Henk Scholten)

Theater Instituut Nederland (TIN) is the heart of the Dutch theatre world. We document, support and promote Dutch theatre, both in the Netherlands and abroad. The TIN offers the largest theatre documentation centre in Europe, organizes debates and public exhibitions, promotes talent nationally and internationally, and coordinates within the theatre world. We work on strengthening the social position of theatre so that it may contribute to a rich and inspiring artistic climate in the Netherlands. Theater Instituut Nederland is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. More info about Henk Scholten, director of TIN.
